Top Things to do When Visiting Perth & Surrounds
Kings Park and Botanic Garden is one of Perth’s most iconic landmarks, offering panoramic views of the Swan River and city skyline. As one of the world’s largest inner-city parks, it combines beautifully maintained gardens, scenic bushland walking trails, and rich Indigenous cultural heritage, celebrating the stories and traditions of the local Noongar people, making it a must-visit destination for visitors. A scenic and relaxing walk, offering visitors a glimpse into Perth’s natural landscapes and culture.
Rottnest Island (also known as ‘Wadjemup’) is located 19km off the coast of Perth. This island is known for its relaxed atmosphere, stunning beaches, and clear waters of the Indian Ocean, and is home to the world-famous Quokka. Visitors can get to Rottnest Island via a 30-40min ferry ride from Fremantle, Perth, or Hillary’s Boat Harbour. Rottnest Island is best explored by bike, allowing visitors to ride around and discover its more than 20 bays, coral reefs, and shipwrecks. Rottnest Island offers a rich history to explore and plenty of opportunities for swimming, snorkelling, and diving. February is also one of the best times to visit!

Just around 20 minutes by car from the Perth city centre, Cottesloe Beach is one of the city’s most iconic coastal destinations, known for its soft sand, clear water, and spectacular sunsets over the ocean. Popular for swimming, snorkelling, and relaxed seaside dining, Cottesloe captures the laid-back beach culture Perth is known for. Other nearby beaches, including Scarborough Beach and City Beach, are also within easy reach of the city centre and offer lively beachfront precincts, surf breaks, and scenic coastal walks, giving visitors plenty of opportunities to experience Perth’s stunning coastline.
The Matagarup Zip+Climb offers a unique way to see Perth city and the Swan River from above. Visitors climb their way to the SkyView platform 72 metres above the Swan River, and then zipline back down at speeds up to 75km/hr. This unique experience lets you experience Perth from a new height while enjoying stunning river and city views. We think sunset is the best time of day to do this!
Just 30-minutes from the Perth CBD, the Swan Valley is Western Australia’s must-see food and wine destination, renowned for its world-class wineries, breweries, and distilleries, as well as chocolate, coffee roasters, honey, and gourmet produce. There’s something for everyone. Visitors can also venture to Caversham Wildlife Park, where you can hold koalas, feed kangaroos and see lots of different species of animals, birds, and reptiles. Margaret River is a world-renowned region located approximately 3 hours south of Perth. Known for its award-winning wineries, scenic walking trails, and beautiful beaches, it’s perfect for a weekend getaway. Visitors can explore the towering Boranup Karri forest and the spectacular limestone caves of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge, offering a unique chance to experience Western Australia’s landscapes. With boutique wineries, craft breweries, artisanal food, and pristine coastal views, Margaret River combines natural beauty, adventure, and gourmet experiences for every type of visitor.
Located about 200 km (around a 2–2.5 hour drive) north of Perth, the Pinnacles Desert in Nambung National Park makes for a memorable day trip. Visitors can explore the striking limestone formations via a scenic drive or short walking trails, with sunrise and sunset offering particularly dramatic views.
