About the ASBHM Fellowship Award

The Australian Society for Behavioural Health and Medicine (ASBHM) is thrilled to offer a prestigious fellowship award to honour individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the association and the broader field of behavioural health and medicine.

This fellowship award aims to recognise and celebrate individuals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing research, education, and service/advocacy in the areas of behavioural health and medicine. Recipients of the fellowship award will be selected based on their significant contributions to the field, and dedication to improving the health and well-being of individuals through behavioural research.

The fellowship award is a way for ASBHM to acknowledge and show appreciation for the outstanding efforts and achievements of its members. It serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication of individuals who have made a lasting impact in the field of behavioural health and medicine.

The successful fellowship applicant will retain all rights to serve on the executive committee, and are entiled to use the postnominal FASBHM (Fellow of the Australasian Society for Behavioural Health and Medicine).

Current ASBHM Fellows

Professor Barbara Mullan, Curtin University

Professor Mullan has authored more than 230 peer-reviewed publications, with over two-thirds appearing in top-tier journals (Q1). She ranks in the top 2.5% of researchers on Researchgate, with 70% of her papers including student contributions, reflecting her commitment to nurturing the next generation of scholars. Her collaborations span international researchers (21%), Eastern Australian academics (56%), and local Western Australian partners.

Professor Mullan has secured over AUD$4.2 million in competitive funding from prestigious sources such as the WA Department of Health, ARC, Cancer Research Fund, the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, and internal university funds.

Professor Kerry Sherman, Macquarie University

Professor Sherman is an internationally recognised leader in psycho-oncology and women’s reproductive health, with more than two decades of highly impactful, continuously funded research and the development of widely implemented digital health interventions supporting informed decision-making and wellbeing. She has held senior editorial roles across leading journals, served on numerous national and international advisory committees, and made exceptional contributions to ASBHM, including as President, Treasurer, long-standing Executive Committee member, and co-chair of multiple conferences. Her election as a Fellow reflects her profound influence on the discipline and her commitment to advancing behavioural health and medicine in Australia and internationally.

Associate Professor Carina Chan, La Trobe University

Based at La Trobe University, Associate Professor Chan is an internationally recognised researcher whose work bridges health behaviour change, chronic disease prevention and management, and the translation of behavioural science into policy, practice, and community benefit, with particular impact in regional and underserved settings. She has played a pivotal role in shaping the discipline through more than 20 years of service to ASBHM, including as President and Treasurer (current), and the international behavioural medicine community. Her election as a Fellow recognises both her scholarly impact and her enduring commitment to advancing the field.
